Who, What, When &
Where...?
Sleuths' Ink has lots of good things in store for this year.
Informative speakers, market news, contests, handouts and lots of writer support!!
January gets started with a big bang!
Our regular monthly meeting was disrupted by the winter weather, so the date of the 9th was canceled and re-scheduled for the 16th.
Those of us who were participating in the JANO project were encouraged to read a page from our work and discuss how the experiance was going for us. Most of the members who were not doing JANO were recruted! : )
JANO is sleuths' Ink's take on NaNo, the popular National Novel Writing Month held every November. Since several of our members were unable to participate in NaNo, Sleuths' Ink has decided to kick off the new year with a built-in resolution. We'll adopt many of the same rules as Nano but write during the month of January and call our special month Jano.
Here are the rules:
Write a 50,000-word novel in one moth (31 days)
This equals 1,6013 words per day
Don't take time for edits (just quick, simple corrections, if anything)
You may plot of outline your novel before January.
You may start a biographical character sketch before January.
But there can be NO ACTUAL NOVEL WRITING UNTIL January 1st.
Start your coffee machines!
So far we've had 16 people sign-up.
Sleuths' Ink Jano Writers
February 13th, Terry McDermid. She'll be talking about how to edit our JANO manuscripts.
March 13th, Dr. Susan Anderson who will discuss Multiple Personality Disorders.
April 10th, from 11 a.m.-noon. Wayne Holmes, a Drury English professor for over two decades, Shakespeare researcher and writer (especially Othello), and well-known Ozarks' storyteller, will speak in April about his new memoir, ROCKY COMFORT. His memoir is based on his hardscrabble, very poor life as his family traveled in a covered wagon through Kansas and Oklahoma before settling in Missouri. His tell-all book of a young-boy-turned-man is plainspoken, touching, honest, and occasionally shocking. Wayne will discuss the process of writing a memoir and the independent publisher he used in MO. He'll read a chapter, as well as his Saturday Night poem. He'll also take questions from the group.
Then, please join us for lunch at Panera Bread adjoining the Library Station on North Kansas. I'm sure more questions will follow during lunch.
